Metal Sublimation by Hessam Abrishami

Hessam Abrishami’s work is emotional in process, vivid in color and contemporary in execution. As an artist who has continued to have a following of collectors and galleries for over 40 years, it is not only his talent but his openness to innovationthat has kept him at the forefront of today’s art industry.

What better way to highlight the emotion and vividness of color in his work than through a cutting edge medium that will withstand all elements.  Metal sublimation prints are a cutting edge medium that will withstand all elements. The artwork is embedded forever beneath the metal substrate; it will never fade, never flake and is able to be displayed indoors or outside.

To begin the sublimation process, the aluminum and transfer paper are first placed into a custom heat press, which is heated to temperatures exceeding 380 degrees Fahrenheit. While being subjected to extreme heat and pressure, the dyes from the transfer paper turn into a gas, are

pressed into the surface of the metal, and then solidify into the treated aluminum.  As the dyes cool they are permanently infused beneath the surface of the metal substrate.

There are several benefits of the die sublimation process to metal.  The inks are permanently bonded to the metal which means there is no fading of the artwork.  The intense color will not fade over time, even if placed in direct sunlight. It is also easier to clean the piece as household cleaners will not harm the metal.
